The Prairie State

Illinois is a state of rolling, fertile plains, cities, farmland and many interesting things to see and do. Chicago is the largest city in the state of Illinois with a population of nearly 3 million people this makes it the third largest city in the United States. Leaving Chicago behind you will find there is much to see such as wilderness areas to quiet rivers to flowing lakes surrounded by forests.

Manufacturing in Illinois is concentrated in but not limited to Chicago and has always been diverse. There are small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity in central and western Illinois. Natural resources like coal, timber, petroleum (in the south) and agriculture gives Illinois a broad economic base. The state's manufactures include food and agricultural products, transportation equipment, chemicals, industrial machinery and computer equipment. The massive Chicago district is a great iron and steel producer, meat packer, grain exchange, and railroad center and Illinois is an important transportation hub.

Illinois has a temperate climate, with cold, snowy winters and hot, wet summers.
