The Pine Tree State

Maine is famous for the fine taste, texture and fresh color of its seafood. Maine’s rivers and streams abound with land-locked salmon, trout, small mouthed bass, pickerel and perch. Has more than 25 ski areas, including nationally-known Sugarloaf USA which has a 9,000 ft. gondola line.

Maine is one of America's largest blueberry growing states, raising 90% of the low-bush blueberries in North America. Potatoes rank 3rd in acreage and 4th in production nationally. Farm income is also derived from apples, potatoes, dairy products, and vegetables, with poultry and eggs the largest selling items. The state is one of the world's largest pulp-paper producers and turns out wood products from boats to toothpicks. Maine also leads the world in the production of the familiar flat tins of sardines, producing more than 75 million of them annually. In 2005, Maine lobster fishermen landed nearly 63 million pounds of lobster.

Major points of interest are the town of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Allagash National, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House in Portland, Wilderness Waterway, St. Croix Island National Monument and Roosevelt Campabello International Park.
