![]() Nevada The Silver StateNevada holds several “claims to fame” including being the driest State in the nation. With an average of only 7” of rainfall annually, much of Nevada is uninhabited sage brush covered desert. The richest known silver deposit was discovered in Nevada in 1958 and named The Comstock Lode. Once news of the deposit was publicized, prospectors headed west by the droves which was the beginning of the first large population increase in the State. The state's leading agricultural industry is cattle and calves. Agricultural crops consist mainly of hay, alfalfa seed, barley, wheat, and potatoes. Nevada manufactures gaming equipment; lawn and garden irrigation devices; titanium products; seismic and machinery monitoring devices; and specialty printing. Attractions in this state are many and include Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Reno and the Hoover Dam.
