The Empire State

The state of New York has much to offer its residents or visitors. New York City is a mecca for business, entertainment, shopping or the gourmet. It is one of the most visited cities in the world and makes each tourist feel right at home. The Catskill Mountain range is home to the finger lake district which is a great getaway spot. Vineyards and wineries are now commonly found along the hillsides and the state is a leading wine producer.

Many corporate head offices are located in New York and housing and work are both plentiful in this picturesque state. Nearly all the rest of New York state's manufacturing is done on Long Island, along the Hudson north to Albany and through the Mohawk Valley, Central New York and Southern Tier regions to Buffalo.

New York state ranks seventh in the nation in manufacturing with 586,400 employees as of 2005. The main industries are printing, publishing, industrial machinery and equipment manufacturing. Electronic equipment and instruments are also manufactured in New York state. In addition the convention and tourism sectors provide an important source of income to the state as do the farms that produce cattle, corn, poultry, vegetables and fruit.
